Off-table edges
Profitable online Texas Holdem is about the re-application of small but efficient edges over a longer period of time.
In order to be able to follow this course of action, one needs to first find some edges and learn how to exploit them. The good news is, such edges are available well before you actually sit down to a poker table, the bad news is however, that few people ever make the effort to actually secure these edges.
One such edge is poker rakeback.
In real-money games, the house takes a percentage off each pot. That is the rake. You, as a player, pay the rake whether you win or lose. If you can get a part of that rake rebated, you’ll have secured yourself a lasting edge that will impact your overall performance tremendously.
Another off-table edge is game selection. Texas Holdem is a game of high variance which rewards rookies with a good return on their bad calls in the short run. If there are several rookies at a table all making bad calls and “schooling”, then play there becomes downright abysmal.
Thus, Texas Holdem is a game where it is actually pretty tough to squeeze a long-term benefit out of rookies.
